A decade or so ago, I ran one of the country’s largest firms of consulting psychologists. The majority of our work was in outplacement – that is we helped senior executives who were no longer needed by an organisation to find a new job. At the time, we used a methodology developed by an old friend and colleague, John Hunt, when he was Group HR Director of the Mars organisation. It was, and remains, the single most effecive approach to finding a job.
Over the last ten years, I’ve been helping senior executives independently, using an evolving version of the same process. This has been very successful and, late last year, a couple of professional colleagues persuaded me to put digit to keyboard and produce a short book that describes the process and how it benefits from the opportunities offered by social media and social networking.
